Interactive Marketing Unit (IMU) - I used Flash to create a floating ad that responds when the mouse rolls over the ad. This is an attempt to get the user to click-through to the Starbucks French Roast coffee page where there is a full description of this coffee. To get the ad to work, I researched the floating ad creation and found it was usually done using a button. I knew I had to make the Flash transparent so I set the WMODE property to transparent. It was difficult to align the ad using a z-index, or basically a layer, for any size browser window. My idea was to get the user 's attention directed to the main button - the Starbucks logo, and to get them to click through. I tried to keep it kind of fun.
This marketing method was popular in Europe in the early 2000's.
The Children's Rainforest Art Project - Digital Marketing Plan - Established in 2004 by the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Optimist Club of San Diego to create vibrant healing surroundings for child cancer victims, the project has grown to offer art programs to underpriveledged children, instilling confidence and self-esteem by creating public works of art and learning life-long skills. The main hub of the Children's Rainforest Project is their web site. We were asked to develop a digital marketing plan for the organization, detailing their strengths and weaknesses, competitor analysis, PEST analysis, strategy and marketing mix and the like. The directors of the program were given a copy of our report for analysis. This project was done with Leif Griffin, a San Diego State Marketing graduate.
